Energy Resilience
Our focus
-
Decentralized solutions for energy access in crisis context: For communities affected by crisis and conflict, UNDP’s approach goes beyond restoring energy access in and of itself, but rather as a means of combating poverty and inequality generated by situations of displacement, addressing basic household energy needs, restoring power to clinics, schools and other public services, fueling water systems for agriculture and basic needs, and empowering micro, small and medium enterprises and community livelihoods so communities can regain a decent way of life and resume development pathways. A dedicated focus in recent years has also been to expand energy resilience in key sectors such as the health sector to effectively respond to COVID-19 and Ebola crises.
-
Strategic upstream advisory support to countries to mainstream sustainable energy solutions into long term crisis recovery plans and investments, to advance opportunities for a green recovery from situations of war, disasters or the pandemic. This helps partners identify opportunities for creation of competitive, reliable, affordable energy markets as well as policy de-risking instruments to accelerate financing and private sector engagement in crisis affected countries.
