Finding Common Grounds under One Roof
Girls and boys from different backgrounds in Al Marj found a common ground at the newly rehabilitated sports facility, a healthy and safe place where they can grow, play, and have fun.
During the inauguration of the facility, Coach Tarek El Sayed, head of Al Marj’s Sports Academy, expressed his optimism regarding the impact of this project. “We currently have 320 members of diverse nationalities, and we expect to welcome 100 new ones,” he stated.
Sayed also stressed on the importance of promoting girls’ engagement in sports. “The facility has now become safer for the children and youth,” he said, “so, for the first time in our town, we are in the process of establishing a soccer team for girls to play and compete.”
UNDP, in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs and funded by Germany through the German Development Bank KfW, rehabilitated the facility in Al Marj to promote a space that supports the development of healthy youth in a climate of peace.
While the team spirit is ignited under the roof of this facility, the friendships formed have gone beyond the courts and spread throughout the whole community.
