MSMEs account for 90% of business activities and contribute more than 50% of jobs worldwide.

In Indonesia, they represent 99% of the total business activities with 64 million MSMEs, absorbing 97% of employment and accounting for 60% of the Gross Domestic Product[i].

While women-led MSMEs contribute to nearly 64% of MSMEs in Indonesia, only 0.25% of them benefit from government procurement spending.

SHE-BID, the joint UNDP FairBiz and Alliance for Integrity initiative, provide women-owned SMEs with trainings to support them in unlocking government procurement opportunities with integrity. Encompassing not only the theoretical approach, SHE-BID also covered the practicalities of accessing contracts.

Following the first virtual edition in 2021, the new back-to-live training took place on 13 – 14 September 2022 at the University of Atma Jaya in Jakarta, with 70 participants, mainly company owners and managing directors, attending the event.

Bapak Siprianus Bate Sor, Democratic Governance and Poverty Reduction Unit Team Leader at UNDP Indonesia, highlighted how SHE-BID is instrumental in supporting the Indonesian government program in helping MSMEs affected by COVID-19 and improve economic recovery.

The training will be followed by an Open Day, mentoring the participants further on the tasks they were given during the sessions. The final Action Day will focus on the evaluation and further dialogue with the participants.
