October 7, 2022, within the framework of the Joint Programme of UNDP, UNFPA and FAO "Unleashing young people’s and vulnerable citizens’ creativity and innovation by strengthening their adaptive capacity to address the economic and food insecurities in the exposed communities of the Aral Sea region" funded by the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan (MPHSTF), with the participation of the developer and patent holder of the water-saving technology "Buried Diffuser" from Tunisia, Dr. Bellachheb Chahbani (online) and the Aral Sea International Innovation Center under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan will hold a seminar for representatives of relevant government agencies, as well as farmers on the topic "Benefits and the effectiveness of innovative technologies "Buried Diffuser" (subsoil irrigation) in the cultivation of crops "on the created demonstration site on the territory of the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea Region.
The purpose of this seminar is to introduce new technologies to farms and disseminate the results of testing and knowledge among farmers and youth.
The workshop will feature a presentation on innovative technologies developed by Dr. Chahbani Bellachheb for the efficient and sustainable use of water in irrigation, as well as drought mitigation and climate change adaptation.
Buried Diffuser is a new underground irrigation method that can be used for trees (fruit trees, forest trees, ornamental trees) and shrubs, vegetables in fields and greenhouses, and plants in containers, pots or boxes.
In the practical part of the seminar, the participants will be acquainted with the results of testing innovative technologies for irrigating crops at the demonstration site of the International Innovation Center.
During the seminar, participants will gain knowledge and ideas on innovative water-saving technologies that must be used to prevent water shortages in agriculture in the Aral Sea region.
The planned activities are aimed at supporting the increase of knowledge on the application of innovative water saving technologies among representatives of relevant government agencies and local farmers in the Aral Sea region.
It should be noted that the use of this technology can serve as one of the possible options for adapting sustainable agriculture in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
