Kyiv, 9 November 2022 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, with the financial support of the European Union and in cooperation with the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), recently launched a new online training course to promote integrity in public and private sectors. Basic course, titled the “Anti-corruption Officer,” covers fundamental approaches to anti-corruption, information on anti-corruption infrastructure, national and international cases of corruption prevention, and strategies for implementing anti-corruption measures in any organization.

Anti-corruption officers are agents of change on the ground, on whom the formation of an integrity culture depends. The course is now required for all officers in public and private sector to prevent and detect corruption. After successful completion of the course, all trainees will receive a certificate, and officials will also obtain 1.47 ECTS credits.

Frederik Coene, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, said the fight against corruption remains a priority for the EU-Ukraine relationship, notably in view of Ukraine’s candidate status. “The fight against corruption requires well-informed and decisive actions,” he said. “And that necessitates the creation and distribution of educational products like this one to increase the capacity of public representatives in areas of transparency and accountability – and also to expand the involvement of citizens in effective anti-corruption activities. We are happy to partner with UNDP and the National Agency on Corruption Prevention and to see how even amid the full-scale Russian war Ukraine moves forward with this important agenda.”

Christophoros Politis, interim UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, emphasized the importance of investing in anti-corruption efforts, especially from a prevention perspective. He said his organization is working closely with specialized state bodies to confront the challenge head-on, and highlighted the role “anti-corruption officers play as direct contributors to advancing prevention and awareness raising,” he added. “We at UNDP support initiatives that offer comprehensive and structural solutions to advance transparency and accountability at all levels of governance and in all sectors so that Ukraine can continue advancing its development ambitions, leaving no one behind and advancing a sustainable and inclusive agenda.”

Serhiy Derkach, Head of the Corruption Prevention and Detection Department at NACP, emphasized that the professional development of anti-corruption officers is one of the agency’s essential tasks. “Together with our partners, we create methodical and digital educational products and necessary tools that help to organize the officers’ work effectively,” he said. “If you aspire to become an influential professional in the field of corruption prevention, start your development with the basic course “Anti-corruption Officer.”

The training course, available at the link, was created in partnership with the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine with the financial support of the European Union under the United Nations Recovery and Peacebuilding Programme (UN RPP).

The UN RPP is being implemented by four United Nations agencies: the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). Eleven international partners support the Programme: The European Union (EU), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, and the governments of Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland.
