14 November 2022, Almaty - Today the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan has launched series of capacity building training sessions for Japanese companies, their suppliers, and partners on introducing and implementing the Human Rights Due Diligence policy. The event is organized within the UNDP Business and Human Rights initiative, funded by the Government of Japan.
"I am pleased to see the development of this project for providing the training course on human rights due diligence towards having high expectations of the positive outcomes of this training course. As you are well aware, global efforts to address business and human rights continue to accelerate. For those companies operating their business globally, it becomes increasingly important how to implement human rights due diligence in their global supply chains as a key to the business success of their corporate activities. I believe this UNDP training course will be a fruitful opportunity for every participant through this course to learn how to implement human rights due diligence which will match the economic situation, culture, and business realities of respective countries where your company operates, while based in international standards," - said Mr Gen Nakatani, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan on international human rights issues in his video message addressed to the training participants.

The trainings aim to build capacity of Japanese companies, their suppliers and partners on development and implementation of the HRDD policy in their companies. The training agenda includes an overview of the Business and Human Rights framework, Human Rights Due Diligence, including the necessity and existing tools to conduct heightened human rights due diligence in times of conflicts, grievance mechanism and human rights management in responsible supply chains. Training experts are represented by leading national and international experts in business and human rights area.
Training sessions on Human Rights Due Diligence for Japanese companies, their suppliers, and partners will also be delivered in Astana and Atyrau.

The Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are in partnership to promote the global Business and Human Rights agenda, through the newly launched project titled “Promoting Responsible Business Conduct with a particular focus on promoting human rights due diligence in global supply chains and leveraging the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights for a just recovery”. With programming in 17 countries, including the Republic of Kazakhstan, the projects are focused on promoting a national narrative on business and human rights and strengthening Responsible Business practices of Japanese companies and their suppliers in the target countries through improving the ability and understanding of national authorities, Japanese businesses, suppliers and partners to carry out Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD).
