Regressing gender equality in Myanmar: Women living under the pandemic and military rule
Regressing gender equality in Myanmar: Women living under the pandemic and military rule
March 7, 2022
One year on from the military takeover in Myanmar and the situation for women is especially bleak. Many are scared to leave their homes, are struggling to earn a stable income, and the peace, political and economic rights they saw improvements on for a decade are rapidly disappearing.
This joint report from UNDP and UN Women analyses the gendered social and economic impacts of the pandemic and the coup, and provides a solid foundation for designing gender-sensitive interventions. It uses survey data gathered from interviews with 2,200 women in November 2021 to explore these themes.
The report is available in English and Myanmar language.
