What is Renewable Energy for Rural Livelihood (RERL) Project?

RERL is a joint project of UNDP and the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) of the Government of Nepal. It provides technical support to implement the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Project Off Grid Component funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) which aims to increase electricity access in rural Nepal by installing 4.3MW MHP and 0.5MW SMG with 20% capacity utilized in productive uses and mainstreaming gender equality and social inclusion.

Where does it work?

It is working in selected municipalities of Baitadi, Kailali, Surkhet, Mugu, Jumla, Rukum, Rolpa, Sindhuli, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Solukhumbu, Morang, Panchthar and Taplejung districts.

How many people will be benefitted through this project?

30,500 households (143,350 people) will directly benefit from access to electricity.
