In the “Innovation Campus”- the training program launched by Samsung with United Nations Development Programme, Istanbul Technical University and Turkish Informatics Foundation - the most successful projects have been chosen by a jury of experts and the students eligible to graduate were granted with certificates.

The successful projects have been announced in the “Innovation Campus” training program launched by Samsung Electronics, in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and Turkish Informatics Foundation (TBV).

The jury of experts selected the most creative projects, using the best of IoT technologies and best serving Sustainable Development Goals in accordance with the globally determined selection criteria.

The top three projects as a result of the jury vote were Climate Sensitive Smart System, Smart Waste Management and Invisible Helper. Batuhan Abay’s project “Climate Sensitive Smart System” developed to measure air pollution ranked first, while Emre Mollahüseyinoğlu and Fatih Arslantürk’s project “Smart Waste Management” aiming at ensuring sustainability in waste management ranked second, and Doğukan Ateş’s project “Invisible Helper” which provides solutions to all challenges faced by visually impaired individuals ranked third.

A gift voucher of 10,000 TL for the winner, 7.500 TL voucher for the runner-up and 2.500 TL voucher for the one who came third were issued for the purchases to be made on Samsung.com.

25 students received IoT training

The students, whose applications were received in February and selected from more than 4 thousand applications, were provided with approximately 3 months of training focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT). While 80 hours out of 240 hours of training consisted of IoT project preparation processes, it was stipulated that the projects should provide solutions for Sustainable Development Goals. Technical kits, sensors and IoT equipment required for the preparation of the projects were provided by Samsung to students. As a result of the trainings given by ITU experts within the framework of Samsung's global curriculum, a total of 25 students were awarded certificates.

Trainings from leading names and experts

Within the trainings held online this year for the first time due to the coronavirus outbreak, Turkish Informatics Foundation’s Founder Faruk Eczacıbaşı met with the young people and lectured on “Technologies of the Future and the Age of Diffraction". UNDP also provided trainings to young people on Sustainable Development Goals at the start of the project. Moreover, UNDP's team of 15 experts mentored the youngsters in Turkey for the first time to support the projects. In addition to the technical trainings, Samsung's senior human resources experts provided young people with trainings on recruitment, writing CV, interview techniques, etc.

The next term of the long-term education program, which will continue in the coming years, will start in September 2020.
