Grant 6

Scaling up water innovation for climate security in northern Jordan

The objective of the pilot is to identify and nurture innovative water security entrepreneurs and SMEs in northern Jordan. The project supports Syrian refugees and Jordanian host communities in Mafraq and Jerash.

Two inception workshops were held in 2021 in Mafraq and Jerash, and the project signed an agreement with the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) as a national implementing partner.

A mapping for 46 startups active in the water sector in Jordan was completed, along with technical and social assessments to assess their potential impact. After in-depth evaluation 7 SMEs were selected to move to the piloting stage in the targeted governorates.

The selected technologies are implemented in pilot parks in each targeted governorate to increase the visibility and accessibility of the project to targeted beneficiaries to enable replication of successful climate security pilots.

A total of 18 water innovative pilots are being implemented with an estimated number of direct beneficiaries of 1,306, and 13,620 indirect beneficiaries (24% women, 63% youth).
