To celebrate the beginning of UNDP’s new Country Programme in Papua New Guinea next year, UNDP is launching a photo competition, “PNG: A Land of A Thousand Possibilities”, for photographers in the country.
UNDP launches a competition for photographers in Papua New Guinea

We are calling on professional and amateurs of all ages and from all regions of the country to submit us photos that capture the challenges that Papua New Guinea must overcome to become a safer, fairer and more prosperous country for its citizens. The participants must be residents of Papua New Guinea.
Those interested in participating should submit us a total of four photographs that cover the following four themes:
1. Ol Pawa Meri Blo PNG (Powerful Women of PNG)
Send us photos that capture how Papuan New Guinean women and girls are contributing to the development of their nation and fighting against the injustices they face.
2. Mama Graun Em Laip (Mother Earth is Life)
Send us photos that capture how Papua New Guinean are preserving the natural beauty of their country and coping with the challenges posed by climate change.
3. Gutpla Komuniti, Gutpla Laip (Good Community, Good Life)
Send us photos that capture everyday life and challenges in the diverse rural and urban communities of Papua New Guinea.
4. Stretim Sidaun Blo Yu Nau Blo Gutpela Tumora (Working Hard for a Better Tomorrow)
Send us photos that capture how ordinary Papua New Guineans are overcoming economic challenges and working hard to build a more prosperous future for themselves and their communities.
All the photographs should be submitted in RAW or JPG format to communications.png@undp.org by 15 December 2023. Once submitted, UNDP will own the copyright over the materials and reserve the right use them in its external and internal communications with credit being given to the original photographers.
The following background information should be provided for each of the photos submitted:
1) Date of when photo was taken
2) Location of the photo
3) Names of the people featured in the photo
4) 100-300 word background story on the people or places featured in the photo
The three best participants will be rewarded in a ceremony held in Port Moresby next year. UNDP also plans on compiling a coffee table book out of the photographs submitted to the competition.
The following prizes will be given to the three winners of the competition:
1st Place: A camera and a tripod
2nd Place: A drone
3rd Place: A GoPro camera
