Devil in the details: The evolving responsibilities of energy companies in conflict-affected areas

This policy briefing explores how human rights and environmental risks affect companies in conflict-affected contexts. Companies frequently negatively impact conflicts. Whether through hiring security forces that commit abuses, acquiring land from communities without their consent, or allowing misinformation on wars through social media platforms, their actions can lead to or intensify conflicts and their attendant rights violations. The policy briefing sets out how companies—especially those working in the energy sector—can align human rights and environmental standards through emerging regulation and best practice that is specific to conflict-affected settings.

Critical Connections: Tracing the links between climate, conflict, and fragility

Movie Screening| Pathways to Peace: from Negotiators to Insider Mediators in Conflict Resolution

Together with the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and TrustWorks Global, UNDP is showcasing a specialized realm of peacebuilding and conflict resolution in which Insider Mediators emerge as key actors. Following a documentary film on negotiation, a panel discussion offers a complementary approach through Insider Mediators, whose close proximity to the issues at hand enables them to navigate the perspectives of all parties involved, facilitating a level of trust that can be pivotal in achieving meaningful resolutions. An Insider Mediator will share her first-hand experience in building peace in her community.
