Collaborative work on projects for accelerated development in Montenegro

President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, has met with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Montenegro, Ekaterina Paniklova.
He congratulated her on her appointment as Resident Representative, expressing his confidence that the excellent cooperation with the UN agency will continue in the future.
“In this context, the ongoing support of UNDP to Montenegro in developing the country’s national capacities to achieve sustainable development goals and expedite the European integration process is of great importance. I strongly encourage further collaboration and work on projects that continually enhance Montenegro in various areas”,President Milatović stated.
The topics of discussion included the continuation of the E-Social project, also known as Social Card, the enhancement of the efficiency of Social Welfare Centers, strengthening the capacities of local self-governments, projects related to people with disabilities, and the potential for collaboration in the field of ecology. President Milatović emphasized the significance of establishing the United Nations SDG Acceleration Fund for Montenegro, considering it a serious and important project that will significantly contribute to the country's economic progress.
In light of the upcoming delegation led by President Milatović to the UN Climate Change Conference, the UNDP project “The roadmap for a just transition for Montenegro” was also mentioned. It focuses on the Pljevlja region with the aim of supporting a gradual transition to a green economy and sustainable sources of energy.
President Milatović expressed full commitment to improving structural transformation with a focus on green, inclusive, and digital transition, and he expressed gratitude for UNDP's dedication and involvement in addressing matters of utmost importance for the country's development.
Paniklova emphasized that Montenegro’s European integration is a process which is compatible with achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.
“This is the vision of the future direction of Montenegro that UNDP supports, and I believe that the Office of the President of Montenegro will be our significant partner in implementing initiatives focused on digitalizing public administration, social protection, inclusive green growth, and progress towards gender equality. The past results and numerous successful projects are a reason for satisfaction, but also a commitment to working together to strengthen institutional resilience and internal capacities. Human capital is the most important resource and a great asset for Montenegro, and I look forward to continuing our successful cooperation with all national partners”,Paniklova said.
