MYKOLAIV, 7 November 2023 — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, in cooperation with the Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine, has provided the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine in Mykolaiv Oblast with 35 generators to support their daily operations. The final two generators from this supply were handed over during the official visit of the UNDP delegation and the Danish Embassy to Mykolaiv Oblast.

The total cost of all the generators is approximately US$500,000. They will bolster the operating of critical infrastructure, with someof the generators earmarked for installation at ‘points of invincibility’ in preparation for the winter season.

Ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen expressed Denmark’s unwavering support for the recovery of Mykolaiv Oblast. “Supply of generators is one of our ongoing initiatives, and we have several more in the pipeline,” he said. “This substantially enhances the emergency response teams' capacity to address threats and save lives. Denmark is proud to support the heroic and risky work of the rescue workers in Mykolaiv Oblast.”

UNDP Resident Representative Jaco Cilliers emphasized that meeting the urgent needs of State Emergency Service rescue units, especially in Mykolaiv Oblast, is a top priority for UNDP. “We recognize the unprecedented challenges you are facing, and we are committed to helping you overcome these challenges, particularly in the face of what promises to be a difficult winter,” he said.

Because of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation of Ukraine, Mykolaiv Oblast has suffered extensive damage to both civilian and critical infrastructure. UNDP and the Government of Denmark are providing comprehensive support for the recovery of communities in Mykolaiv Oblast. One of the key areas of this cooperation is to address the challenges resulting from the war and to support crisis response efforts.
