The twenty-eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) taking place November to December 2023, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates presents a unique opportunity for the Arab region to leverage partnerships, share lessons learned and best practices on how the private sector can get more engaged in the region on climate action. Collaboration between public and private sectors, along with supportive reforms to the policy ecosystem, can create an environment conducive to attracting and mobilizing private finance for climate-related initiatives.
COP28 and its follow-up presents opportunities for developed and developing countries, international finance institutions, the private sector and all concerned parties to jointly explore alternative, innovative means to boost access to financing opportunities for the realization of the NDCs and SDGs.
The Unlocking Resilience: Private Sector Partnership for Climate Action in the Arab States event will serve as a space to share good practices and lessons learned in mobilizing climate finance, with a focus on ensuring alignment between climate finance and climate strategies in the Arab region. It will provide a space for knowledge sharing among decision makers and the private sector, and act as a base for future partnerships and joint actions.
The event will bring together leading private sector actors, policymakers and international organizations to explore how can private sector get more engaged in climate finance. It will also seek to galvanize long term cooperation for nexus approaches, for climate finance to have impact and co-benefits for goals of poverty, gender equality, food, water and energy security, and climate resilient development pathways.
