Mongolian political parties commit to turn their pledges to action
December 3, 2023
Ulaanbaatar, 4 December 2023 – Leaders and representatives of Mongolian political parties attended the National Forum on “Pledge to Impact: Gender-responsive political party” on 29 November organized by UNDP’s “Promoting gender equality in public decision making and women's empowerment in Mongolia” project funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Political parties have exhibited commendable leadership in dismantling barriers to gender equality in decision-making. They have initiated comprehensive interventions and effective initiatives, striving to become gender-responsive and human rights-sensitive political institutions. These endeavors have been undertaken collaboratively with support from the Project.
A total of 7,101 members and supporters representing 17 political parties actively participated in and benefited from 17 comprehensive interventions supported by the Project. These interventions aimed to cultivate internal party democracy, fostering gender equality and ensuring the equal representation of women in politics, while also supporting female politicians.
The commitment of political parties goes beyond rhetoric, as they continue to work to translate their initiatives and pledges into tangible actions and results. During the forum, parties have reiterated their dedication to promoting gender equality and increasing women's participation in the Parliamentary and Local Elections of 2024.
Acknowledging their pivotal role in nurturing representative democracy in Mongolia, political parties formally endorsed the Pledge on 10 April 2023 expressing their unwavering support for ensuring gender equality, women's participation, and representation at decision-making levels. The National Forum emphasized the importance of turning the pledge into concrete actions and impacts which the political parties acknowledged strongly.
