New York, NY – [25.04.2024] – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) together with HP Inc. signed a statement of intent today.

This global partnership is set to explore new avenues in game development, design, and programming, with the overarching goal of enhancing the employability skills of developers. By integrating key components such as entrepreneurship and essential 21st-century soft skills development, HP and UNDP seek to not only enhance technical capabilities but also to equip individuals with the versatile skills necessary to thrive in today's dynamic job market. The partners are committed to reinforcing the game development ecosystem through a series of targeted training activities, hackathons, and bootcamps. These efforts are designed to cultivate a talent pool and foster an environment where creativity and innovation flourish.

Marcos Neto, Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator and Director of Bureau for Policy and Programme Support of UNDP emphasized the importance of enhancing talent development for enhancing employability and sustainable development: "UNDP envisions a more robust gaming industry that is inclusive and benefits developing nations. This vision can only be realized through collective efforts and strategic partnerships. By working together with partners like HP, we can create a cohesive ecosystem: One that not only fosters economic growth but also is inclusive."

Brittany Masalosalo, Senior Vice President and Chief Public Policy Officer at HP Inc. highlighted the partnership's vision: "HP’s goal is to accelerate digital equity for 150 million people by 2030. One of the ways we achieve this is to ensure the younger generation gets equitable access to skills which prepare them for the future of work and in emerging industries like gaming. HP has been partnering with UNDP to offer HP LIFE courses to equip individuals and small businesses with critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills in more than 30 countries. This expanded partnership with UNDP will pave the way towards a future where technology and skills development converge to create long-term opportunities for growth, learning, and development for many."

This agreement solidified the commitment between UNDP and HP to work collaboratively on projects aimed at equipping the younger generation with skills in game development, design and programming, and building a strong, sustainable and inclusive gaming and esports ecosystem. HP Gaming Garage, a free online eSports management and game development professional certification program currently available in 12 languages, will form the foundation of these projects. It will also set the stage for ongoing collaboration between multiple stakeholders to support economic growth and development in this dynamic sector.
