Emergency responders from the civil defense and fire brigades need life-saving equipment to perform their duties during these critical times in Lebanon.

After years of economic downturn, the Beirut Port explosion, and multiple compounding crises, Lebanon now faces the devastating consequences of the rapidly escalating conflict, and the stakes could not be higher.

Since mid-October 2024, thousands of people have been killed including women and children. According to Government estimates, over 1.2 million people have been displaced from affected areas in the wake of constant threats and the massive destruction of civilian infrastructure.

The courageous women and men of Lebanon’s Civil Defense and Fire Brigades are on the front lines of rescue efforts. These first responders are answering the call in Lebanon’s darkest hour, risking their own lives to protect and save civilians across the country.

Now, more than ever, they need your support!

"The United Nations Development Programme, alongside its partners, is committed to providing first responders - civil defense and fire brigades - with the essential equipment and gear they need to carry out their critical work. For that, collective efforts need to be mobilized to ensure that they can accomplish their humanitarian mission and protect lives." Blerta Aliko, UNDP Resident Representative

The Lebanese Civil Defense and Fire Brigades have a legacy of service, responding to fires, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises. They were the first to rush to the scene after the 2020 Beirut blast, pulling people from the rubble and extinguishing fires in unimaginable conditions. Some even lost their lives while heroically saving children, women, and men.

Despite their unwavering courage, their ability to sustain this lifesaving work is critically threatened. Lebanon’s economic crisis has left them drastically underfunded and underequipped. UNDP Lebanon has been supporting Civil Defense volunteers and staff over the years with firefighting equipment and critical lifesaving protective gear, yet the needs are growing amid the deepening conflict.

Together we can make a difference.
