Ankara, 06 November 2024 - The EU-Türkiye Climate Change Grant Programme, co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Türkiye, has officially launched call for proposals, inviting municipalities, universities, local authorities, development agencies, NGOs, and cooperatives across Türkiye to submit proposals for projects advancing climate adaptation and mitigation at the local level. Applications are open until 16 December 2024.
As part of the “EU Partnership for Local Climate Action in Türkiye” project, the grant programme is dedicated to enhancing Türkiye’s climate resilience by directly supporting projects aligned with the country’s climate goals for 2024-2030. With technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Türkiye, the programme is implemented by the General Directorate for EU and Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, with the Directorate of Climate Change as the end recipient.
The programme will award grants ranging from €250,000 to €750,000, covering up to 90 percent of eligible project costs. Funded projects will focus on building resilient, low-carbon cities, implementing climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, and strengthening stakeholder engagement and public awareness on climate issues. These projects will deliver tangible climate benefits that contribute to Türkiye’s local climate objectives, driving sustainable, community-based initiatives that engage a broad range of stakeholders.
The start of the application period was marked by an initial information session in Ankara on 4 November 2024, with opening remarks delivered by Miodrag Dragišić, Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP Türkiye; Virve Vimpari, Counsellor and Head of Section for Green Development and Inclusive Growth at the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye; and Orhan Solak, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Climate Change.
