Join UNDP for an interactive session showcasing the achievements and lessons from the regional Tsunami Project. This session will feature first-hand stories from educators, community leaders, and government officials sharing their experiences in strengthening tsunami preparedness across Asia-Pacific.
Since 2017, UNDP and the Government of Japan have worked to embed tsunami preparedness across Asia-Pacific. Following Japan’s approach—where disaster preparedness is part of the culture—as of December 2024, around 800 schools in 24 Asia-Pacific countries have participated in tsunami drills, engaging over 220,000 students, teachers, local officials, and community members.
The session will highlight:
Showcasing the achievements and lessons from the regional Tsunami Project
1. The STEP-A digital tool for tsunami preparedness: Live demo, Perspective of using STEP-A in a School, and interactive experience
2. Lessons from school tsunami evacuation drills in Indonesia and Thailand
The Oral Session is intended for everyone living in tsunami-prone coastal areas, including students, community members, government officials, researchers, and people working at development agencies.
