Project
Strengthening Climate Adaptation Capacities of Georgia - Phase 2
Overview
With US$1,450,000 in funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), UNDP supports Georgia in developing a comprehensive system for managing climate risks related to hydrometeorological hazards.
The second phase builds on the results and lessons learned from the first stage as part of the broader climate programme funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), Government of Georgia, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
The current cycle focuses on strengthening national and local capacities for risk-informed development and decision-making, ensuring that all climate adaptation efforts are inclusive, gender-responsive, and sustainable.
What We Do
We work with national and local partners to reduce climate risks and protect communities, livelihoods, and infrastructure — especially vulnerable groups, women, and disadvantaged populations — from climate-induced disasters.
Our work focuses on:
- Building national and local capacity for risk-informed planning and decision-making.
- Ensuring climate adaptation efforts from Phase 1 remain sustainable.
- Reducing exposure and vulnerability to climate hazards.
- Promoting gender equality and inclusive approaches in disaster risk reduction and climate action.
Expected Results
- Detailed landslide hazard risk information developed for three high-risk municipalities: Vani, Baghdati, and Kobuleti.
- Improved snow avalanche forecasting, delivering timely, accurate information to at-risk communities.
- Development of legal and policy frameworks to support risk-informed decision-making and climate-resilient planning.
