Borderlands in Africa – Literature Overview and Key Terms

This literature overview provides the theoretical foundation for a borderlands approach at UNDP. It summarizes major contributions to our understanding of African borderland communities – both academic and in policy frameworks – and illustrates their key concepts with real-life, contemporary examples. Borderlands are the broader territorial margins of nation states, regions where border contact is a central feature of economic and political life.
