This chapter concentrates on delineating and understanding the poverty impact of the main trends in growth and employment in Egypt between 1990 and 2009. Within the context of the “Arab Spring” early in 2011, which was led by generally peaceful political transitions in Tunisia and Egypt, there is now a heightened interest in understanding the historical roots of these political upheavals.
