With the support of the UK Conflict Stability and Security Fund (CSSF), UNDP continues its efforts towards modernization of the TVET system in Armenia.

In the field of skills development, joint UNDP-UNICEF project “Strengthening Stability and Resilience of the Bordering Communities in Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik and Syunik Regions” is addressing challenges of vocational education and training system, its responsiveness to the regional labor market demand, the necessity for new or updated competency-based state education standards and corresponding curricula to form a labor force as per requirements of the regional employers across three bordering regions of the project.

For the informed decision-making, the project has initiated a desk-research on “Bridging the Gap Between Labor Market and TVET System” carried out across three target regions by the end of 2021 to perform labor market analyses and cross-reference the findings of the analyses to the curricula currently delivered by the respective 16 state TVET institutions located in the project target regions.

One of the important recommendations of the desk research fully supported by the National Center of VET Development (www.mkuzak.am), which oversees development and revision of State education standards in TVET sector at the national level, is revision of the state education standards with the corresponding modular programs for two vocational trades-accountant and organizer of social work currently delivered by the regional TVETIs and highly demanded by the local labor market.

Revision of two state education standards to be concluded by the end of May 2022 includes clarification of professional roles, work processes and performance indicators, as well as identification of problem areas of jobs responsibilities and goes in line with the definition of the requirements for knowledge, skills and capabilities, level of computer literacy and language skills.

Once accepted by the National Center of VET Development, the revised two education standards along with the modular programs will help to form a labour force that will better match the current requirements of the regional employers in the said areas.

By making TVET graduates more competitive and with the goal of enhancing human wellbeing, especially of unsafe families and groups, the project supports addressing conflict entailed instability and vulnerabilities in the remote and isolated bordering communities of Armenia.
