To mark Earth Day, UNDP, together with the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure and UNICEF organized an event today in which 30 girls and boys from six public schools planted vertical gardens at the Zahir Pajaziti square, Pristina.
This was the first in a series of activities, under the umbrella of Kosovo Earth Days, that will take place in April and May to raise awareness on the importance of protection of the environment and the urgent need for behavioral change to save the planet.
Thirty girls and boys from six schools from three municipalities, Pristina, Lipjan-Lipljane, and Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje planted rows of seedlings in the vertical gardens which will be donated to participating schools for children to enjoy and take care of. Present at the event were Liburn Aliu, Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure; Maria Suokko, UNDP Resident Representative; Larissa Bruun, Deputy Head of UNICEF / OIC; H. E. Keisuke Yamanaka, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Japan in Kosovo; Ulrika Richardson, UN Development Coordinator; Perparim Rama, Mayor Of Pristina; Fitore Pacolli, Chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Rural Development, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure; and other distinguished guests, and general public.
