UNDP trains magistrates, court registrars and lawyers on anti-corruption legislation

Over 20 magistrates, court registrars and lawyers participated in the training

As part of its activities under the European Union-funded ‘Preventing and Countering Corruption in Papua New Guinea Project (PNG Anti-Corruption Project)’, UNDP, in partnership with the PNG Center for Judicial Excellence, has successfully completed a workshop on anti-corruption legislation, ethics and integrity for magistrates, court registrars and lawyers, in Port Moresby, on 23 October 2024.

The workshop was intended to provide awareness and to discuss the implementation of the anti-corruption legal and organizational framework in Papua New Guinea’s judicial branch of power.

"Magistrates, court registrars, and lawyers play a vital role in the fight against corruption. This workshop on anti-corruption legislation, ethics, and integrity underscores our commitment to equipping you with the knowledge and resources needed to uphold the highest standards of accountability,’’ said Dr. Alma Sedlar, UNDP’s Chief Technical Advisor on Anti-Corruption. 

The session comprised of presentations of theoretical knowledge, combined with different practical exercises and discussions on several topics, including Papua New Guinea’s legislative provisions and institutional set-up for fighting corruption, corruption and integrity threats for legal professionals in Papua New Guinea, and possibilities for enhancing the institutional and personal integrity of magistrates, courts registrars and lawyers.
