Gender in Somalia - Brief

August 27, 2014

UNDP Somalia is committed to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, with a focus on vulnerable individuals.

The Country Programme Document for 2011 to 2015 serves as a guide to implementing gender mainstreaming in the overall country program. The goal is to contribute to human development and gender equality by addressing recurrent discrimination against women, men, girls, and boys.

This Gender Brief provides a snapshot of the current situation for women in Somalia, including high maternal mortality rates, a high incidence of sexual violence, and women and children making up the majority of IDPs.
