Making a Difference: EU-UNDP Partnership in the Arab States Region

March 15, 2022

The European Union and the United Nations Development Programme have teamed up to champion the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a global plan of action for "people, planet, and prosperity." As the deadline to meet the commitments draws near, the EU-UNDP partnership becomes more important than ever for this Decade of Action. The EU's adoption of the Green Deal signifies Europe's commitment to sustainability and presents its vision for the development of the Arab States, an area prone to climate risks. This region is often mired in conflict, and the lack of trust in authorities poses challenges to human development. However, by committing to strong partnerships and cooperation, the region can overcome these challenges and bring about inclusive, community-led change. The partnership spans 14 countries and includes 58 joint actions, with a total investment of €600 million since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015.
