This study aims to evaluate the extent of women's participation in the 2012 municipal elections in Somaliland. Its specific objectives include identifying obstacles that female aspirants and candidates faced and determining factors that contributed to the increase in women's representation. The study encompasses an analysis of the historical trends of women's political participation in Somaliland, examination of the legal and policy frameworks regulating multiparty democracy, and an assessment of progress made by government bodies, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and other stakeholders in advocating for and implementing the 25% quota for women's representation in Parliament.
