Scaling-Up South-South Cooperation for Sustainable Development

Over the past two decades, there has been a significant transformation in growth and development performance in the global South, with increased economic output and improvements in human development indicators. South-South and Triangular Cooperation have emerged as important vehicles for accelerating human development, with estimated values exceeding US$20 billion in 2013. These types of cooperation provide diverse opportunities for development assistance and complement North-South cooperation efforts. The Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change stress the importance of South-South and Triangular Cooperation in achieving their respective agendas.
