UNDP and OSF to Convene a Roundtable on Harnessing Just Energy Transition for Youth Employment: Pathways to Sustainable Green Jobs

WHAT:
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) South Africa, in partnership with the Open Society Foundation (OSF), will host a high-level roundtable on "Harnessing Just Energy Transition for Youth Employment: Pathways to Sustainable Green Jobs." This critical dialogue will bring together youth leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to explore strategies for creating sustainable employment opportunities within South Africa's evolving green economy, particularly through a Just Energy Transition. The roundtable will focus on actionable pathways that leverage green job creation as a solution to youth unemployment while supporting South Africa’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive economic growth. This gathering will also see the launch of the groundbreaking report, The Just Energy Transition: From the Perspectives of South African Mining Communities, a significant study that explores the views of over 10,000 South African respondents from key coal mining communities regarding the nation's shift toward cleaner energy sources.
