Over the past years, the people of South Sudan – the youngest nation in the world – have demonstrated remarkable resilience. However, emerging tensions threaten to jeopardise the 2018 Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and undo years of progress.
Communities across the country have worked tirelessly to restore livelihoods, strengthen institutions, and foster reconciliation – laying the foundation for inclusive governance and sustainable development. But without stability, this progress cannot endure. South Sudan’s sustainable future relies on a united leadership and an unwavering commitment to peace and security.
I join the UN Secretary-General and African Union Commission in urging all parties to prioritize dialogue, unity and peace over conflict, and safeguard the hopes and aspirations of every South Sudanese striving for a better future. UNDP remains steadfast in its support, working alongside the people of South Sudan to build a stable, resilient, and thriving nation.
