THE
TRUE
MEANING
OF
POVERTY
We
probably
think
we
grasp
the
meaning
of
poverty.
But
poverty
contains
layers
of
complexity
and
provokes
insidious
ripple
effects.
It
damages
education,
economies,
and
the
health
and
wellbeing
of
individuals
and
the
communities
they
live
in.
If
we
can
comprehend
the
full
meaning
of
poverty,
we
can
devise
more
effective
measures
to
combat
it
and
strengthen
the
foundations,
and
the
future,
of
the
entire
human
family.
By
2025,
UNDP
aims
to
help
100
million
people
escape
multidimensional
poverty
so
they
can
realize
their
full
potential.

Did
you
know
poverty
is
about
much
more
than
not
having
enough
money?
It
touches
every
aspect
of
my
life.
LAILA,
14
YEARS
OLD
We
were
doing
okay
before
dad
lost
his
job.
Now
we
struggle
for
everything.
My
brother
needs
healthcare.
Our
house
is
cold.
We
are
anxious.
My
mum
and
dad
argue
a
lot
more.
I
want
to
be
a
doctor
and
help
my
community.
But
I’m
scared
I
won’t
even
finish
high
school.
Poverty
is
stealing
my
family’s
future.
Yours
too.
Because
poverty
anywhere
drags
everybody
down.
If
poverty
is
ended,
everybody
can
flourish.
WE
CAN
BREAK
THE
CYCLE.
