Villages of Tomorrow project reaches wider audience on international platforms

Villages of Tomorrow project implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Trendyol with an aim to support rural development by using digital tools was promoted on international platforms. The project was presented to the audience at various conferences held in London, Ankara and Istanbul throughout November and at the Sustainable Future Platform panel at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku on 14 November 2024. In addition to academic articles, the current status of the project was shared with the participants based on data.
The Villages of Tomorrow project was also presented at the Regional Studies Association Winter Conference on “Driving Regions Forward: Transitioning to Brighter Regional Futures” held in London on 7-8 November 2024. At the conference focused on regional development, information on the project's digitalization accelerator tools in rural areas and the training model for developing digital skills was provided to academicians and researchers.
Digital agriculture practices applied within the project were presented at the conference on “Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Resilience: A Management Perspective” organized by the Institute for Educational Research and Publication (IFERP) in Istanbul on 17-18 November 2024. Through a presentation titled “Digital Agriculture and Sustainability Practices in Rural Türkiye: A Review on Villages of Tomorrow Project”, the audience was informed about the training provided at the digital centers established within the project in Izmir Ulamış and Adana Kürkçüler, as well as the smart agriculture practices, resource savings and economic gains achieved.
In addition, at the Sustainable Future Platform panel organized by Trendyol in Baku on 14 November 2024 within COP29, the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals and the contributions of the Villages of Tomorrow project to reducing inequalities between rural-urban life and closing the digital divide, as well as its contributions to resource efficiency and combating climate change through digital agriculture practices were discussed.
The impact of the technological opportunities offered by the project on rural livability was communicated at the 9th Conference on Urban Studies organized by the Institute of Urban Studies on 20-22 November 2024 with the theme of “Resilient Cities and Communities”. The role of information technologies in urban resilience and the contributions of the project in this regard were emphasized at the event.
All these activities ensured the promotion of the Villages of Tomorrow project on national and international platforms on digital literacy, digital agriculture, information technologies, rural development and sustainable future. Similar activities will continue in 2025.
Villages of Tomorrow equips participating villages with a host of digital tools, technologies and training to expand markets for local products, promote smart agriculture, and provide residents in rural areas a chance to learn cutting-edge digital skills that can open doors to new livelihoods.
