Mykola Yabchenko
Mykola Yabchenko (Ukraine)
Project Communications and Knowledge Management Associate, UNDP Ukraine, Democratic Governance Portfolio
The first time Mykola joined UNDP was in 2008, when he became the communications and liaison officer for the largest gender project in CIS – EU funded Equal Opportunities and Women’s Rights in Ukraine Programme (EOWR). This is where origins of his pro-feminism lie. The Project was famous for its interventions in both institutional and communications efforts – it was the EOWR programme that made the first social ads for a domestic violence hotline back in 2009, significantly increasing the use of the hotline by the public.
After working for some time with international organizations and a Ukrainian CSO in the sphere of women’s rights, in 2019 Mykola returned to UNDP to take up the post of communications and knowledge management associate for the EU-UNDP Parliamentary Reform Project.
Mykola is also the gender focal point for the Project, and an active advocate of gender equality in all spheres of his life – both work and private.
Mykola has a diploma in international information (international journalism) from Oles Honchar National University Dnipropetrovsk. He is married and has two sons.
UNDP and me
"Think globally, act locally: I like the minimalism of this phrase and what’s behind the words, as it describes UNDP’s work. The Sustainable Development Goals set a Global Agenda, while our work in each country allows us to act locally and apply the exact solutions we need here and now. This is what inspires me - to see how our efforts, even at the regional level, affect the Global Agenda and bring us closer to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals."
