Borodianka, Bucha District, Kyiv Oblast, 3 January 2025 – A multi-storey residential building in Borodianka has officially reopened following major restoration works funded by the UNITED24 programme and facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, in collaboration with local governmental bodies.

The building, located at 306 Tsentralna Street, sustained severe damage due to military action and a subsequent fire, rendering it unsuitable for habitation. Today's reopening marks the completion of comprehensive structural repairs and renovations, restoring safe and modern living conditions for its 150 residents across 50 apartments.

The restoration work included replacing roofs, doors, windows, balcony railings, and ensuring the proper functioning of essential utilities such as power, water, and sewage systems. The reopening also aligns with ongoing efforts to rehabilitate infrastructure damaged by the war, as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNDP in Ukraine, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, and the Kyiv Oblast Administration.

UNDP's National Project Manager Ihor Kistenyov-Kavkazkii, speaking at the opening event for the newly reconstructed building, emphasized the importance of this achievement.

"This restoration is more than rebuilding walls; it is reviving hope and stability for the community,” Kistenyov-Kavkazkii said. “Through our collaborative efforts, we aim to pave the way for a resilient future by not only restoring homes but also strengthening the living conditions with sustainable and modern materials."

Acting Head of Kyiv Oblast State Administration Mykola Kalashnik expressed gratitude for the support provided: “The successful restoration of this building is a testament to the power of teamwork and international partnership,” Kalashnik said. “We greatly appreciate the opportunities that the UNITED24 platform and UNDP provide us, and we’re thankful for their ongoing support in restoring our communities and helping Ukrainians return to normal life.”

Head of the Borodianka Settlement Council Oleksandr Sakharuk acknowledged the collaborative spirit driving this project: "This initiative showcases the resilience and unity of our people and partners. Restoring these homes means restoring the heart of our community, and we look forward to furthering this journey of recovery."
