Two war-damaged apartment buildings in Irpin fully restored through United24 and UNDP project
December 23, 2024
Irpin, Kyiv Oblast, 23 December 2024 – Two eight-story apartment buildings in Irpin, Kyiv Oblast, severely damaged by artillery fire during the initial stages of Russia's full-scale invasion, have been fully restored thanks to the United24 state fundraising platform and technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine.
A total of 60 apartments in the two buildings were damaged, with 20 of them requiring complete restoration. The apartments now feature new doors, windows, and flooring, and interiors finished with modern, eco-friendly materials. Additionally, the buildings’ facades and roofs have been repaired, engineering systems restored, and partial insulation installed, with new doors and windows fitted throughout.
The renovation project, completed in just six months at a cost over UAH 33 million (or about U.S. $787,000), has enabled some 300 residents to return to safer and more comfortable homes.
UNDP Ukraine Project Manager Ihor Kistenyov-Kavkazkii said the project exemplified his agency’s commitment to reconstructing resilient communities in Ukraine. “Beyond restoring the physical structure, we’re laying the groundwork for sustainable development and stability,” Cilliers said. “By integrating modern and eco-friendly materials, we not only enhance living conditions for residents, but also contribute to the long-term resilience of these communities. Our collaborative efforts with United24 and the Ukrainian government underscore our dedication to not just rebuild, but providing citizens with renewed strength and hope as they reclaim their lives."
Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Ruslan Kravchenko expressed gratitude to the partners for their ongoing support in restoring Kyiv Oblast. “Each restored building brings us closer to recovery and normalcy,” he said. “We’re deeply grateful to United24, the Ministry for Restoration, and UNDP, not only for rebuilding infrastructure but also for creating spaces where residents can rebuild their lives with comfort and dignity.”
