April 6, 2021
In 2017, the first open data survey of the USREOU “Women and Men in Leadership Positions in Ukraine” was conducted.
Although the publicly available data of the Ministry of Justice, published on the open data portal data.gov.ua, do not have a separate field “gender”, they contain the last name, first name and patronymic of individuals – entrepreneurs and managers of legal entities. Accordingly, with specialized programming, we can identify the sex of a private entrepreneur or the head of a legal entity from the register, using the parental suffixes “-ovych / -ich” for men and “-ivna / -yivna” for women.
In combination with the information on the main activity (NACE) of the legal entity or private entrepreneur, the data on the place of registration for these millions of records, it is possible to do extremely interesting research and analysis.
We have carried out an extended study, including the dynamics of 2017-2020.
The research was prepared within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian Project “Strengthening Business Associations of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Stage 2)” implemented by the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine (UNDP) in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and with the support of Switzerland.
