26 May, TASHKENT – The winners of Uzbekistan’s national annual ‘Best research of judicial practice’ contest were announced today at the International Hotel Tashkent. Hosted by the ‘Rule of Law Partnership in Uzbekistan’ project of the Supreme Court, USAID and UNDP.

This contest recognizes exceptional analytical studies of judicial acts completed by students of the Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED).

The ‘Best research of judicial practice’ contest focuses on analysis of judicial acts and other information publicly available on the Uzbekistan’s Supreme Court website. Students had to analyse up to 50 judicial acts and identify violations of substantive and procedural law there. Drawing on the principles of legality, objectivity, transparency, collegiality and equality, the contest seeks to challenge student’s legal knowledge, along with their abilities in scientific and statistical analysis.

This year original research papers were received from 15 university students (11 men and 4 women), including three second-year, nine third-year and three fourth-year students. Most chose to analyse judicial acts related to civil courts, and it was impressive to see that the highest-scoring participants were all in their second year.

The highest scores of this year’s contest included those of Z. Keldibekov who analysed civil courts’ acts, S. Sobirov who studied the material and procedural law of economic courts, and K. Solieva who analysed judicial acts related to criminal courts.

The competition winners were awarded certificates, laptops, tablets and other valuable gifts.
