Tirana says no to sexual harassment as the "I Speak Up" campaign takes off in Tirana
March 8, 2024
Tirana, March 6, 2023: On the eve of March 8th, an outdoor campaign against sexual harassment titled "I Speak Up" kicked off in Tirana Municipality.
The campaign features public messages under the slogan "This city does not remain silent but speaks out against sexual harassment," placed in key locations of the city, covering areas such as the city center, Elbasan Road, Tirana e Re, and Kombinati.
Additionally, 70 signs with the title "Sexual harassment is a crime and punishable by imprisonment" have been placed on urban buses along the Kamza line with phone numbers indicating where sexual harassment can be reported. Besides the State Police number, two counseling hotline numbers for women and children have also been displayed to help individuals who have experienced sexual harassment. The campaign will run for 30 days. It will be followed by a podcast series, "I Speak Up," spotlighting the narratives of harassment and sexual assault survivors alongside insightful analysis and advice from experts on responding to such situations.
The campaign is designed by Albanian Woman in Audiovisual in the context of the UN Joint Programme: Ending Violence Against Women,” funded by the Government of Sweden and implemented by UNDP and other UN agencies in Albania.
The campaign will be jointly implemented by Albanian Woman in Audiovisual and UNDP.
The event, happening next to a bus station, was attended by representatives from government institutions, the Ombudsman, international organizations, the municipality, civil society, students, and citizens.
