What we do
BIOFIN programme offers a systematic approach that includes a comprehensive assessment of the national policy and institutional context, a detailed review of biodiversity-related expenditures and an estimation of financial needs for achieving national biodiversity targets. By identifying gaps and opportunities in the financing landscape, BIOFIN supports countries in mobilizing additional resources, boosting the efficiency of existing funds, and exploring innovative financing solutions through enhanced coordination and capacity among national stakeholders. This initiative strengthens national efforts toward achieving global biodiversity goals as outlined in the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and advances progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Objective
The project’s objective is to develop national biodiversity finance plans by identifying the root causes of biodiversity loss, assessing national biodiversity finance gaps, and formulating strategies to bridge these gaps through a range of finance solutions and improved resource use efficiency.
Expected results
National report comprising of separate reports on Policy and Institutional Review (PIR), Expenditure Review (BER), Needs Assessment (FNA) and Finance plans (BFP)
Armenia is among the 91 participating countries of the global BIOFIN initiative endorsed and being funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat.
