Careers
People Programmes
The UNDP People Programmes target emerging talent populations. Job opportunities falling under these programmes may be advertised individually or as part of a roster. Application criteria and job features are specific to each programme, as detailed below. To make sure you are notified when we launch our next call for applications, make sure to follow UNDP Careers on social media:
Internships
UNDP provides internship opportunities to students (those completing a Master’s or in the last year of their Bachelor’s) and to recent graduates (up to one year post-graduation) who exhibit an interest in the field of development and who share our vision. These practical experiences, whether in UNDP country offices, regional hubs or headquarters in New York, provide a taste of UNDP’s work and community.
UNDP internships may last up to six months. Exceptionally, internships may last nine months when they are being completed for academic credit. They may be completed in-person or remotely, as detailed in the vacancy announcement. All interns receive a monthly stipend that varies depending on the country of assignment, and whether the internship is in-person or remote.
All of our internships are advertised on the UNDP Job Page. If your application is found to be of interest, you will be invited for an interview by the hiring UNDP office.
Fellowships
UNDP provides fellowship assignments to students, recent graduates, and mid-career professionals from diverse backgrounds. They may be funded either by UNDP or by a partner institution that has engaged in an agreement with UNDP. Those selected as UNDP fellows are given the chance to experience the day-to-day work of international development within the UN for up to 12 months. Fellows receive a monthly stipend that varies depending on the country of assignment.
Please check the UNDP Fellowship Policy for more information.
UNDP Graduates
The UNDP Graduate Programme is a two-year young talent development programme for recent graduates from UNDP programme countries (those in which UNDP is directly engaged) who hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree and an interest in international development.
This programme helps fuel the next generation UNDP workforce while infusing the organization with new and diverse perspectives. Women and/or individuals from minority groups, indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Graduates who are the first generation in their family to attend university are also strongly encouraged to apply.
It is anticipated that the next recruitment campaign will be launched in the beginning of 2025. If you are interested in joining our Graduate Programme, please keep an eye on the UNDP Job Page and on our social media channels.

Junior Professional Officers
The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme targets young professionals from UNDP donor countries with at least two years of professional experience.
The programme has specific application requirements related to: nationality, age, type of academic degree and years of experience. You can review the requirements for current vacancies on the dedicated UNDP JPO Service Centre website as well as on the website of the sponsoring government to learn whether you are eligible to apply.
JPO vacancies are advertised on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the funding donor country. Some JPO vacancies are advertised on the UNDP Job Page. JPO vacancies are advertised throughout the year, which means you should visit the UNDP Job Page and the website of your respective Ministry of Foreign Affairs on a regular basis.
For more information about the UNDP JPO Programme and how to apply, please visit our dedicated UNDP JPO Service Centre website.

United Nations Volunteers (UNV)
Another way to join UNDP and contribute to our mission is by volunteering through the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme. UNV works with United Nations partners and non-governmental organizations to integrate qualified and highly motivated UN Volunteers into different agencies, including UNDP. UNV volunteers act as a significant force for peace and development worldwide.
Volunteers are managed by UNV and are subject to their code of conduct and conditions of service, which shall be shared with the volunteer prior to deployment. They are entitled to certain allowances to support their work. However, these are not to be considered compensation, reward or salary. To find out more, check out the dedicated UNV webpage on UNV conditions of service. All UNV positions assigned to UNDP are available on the UNDP Job Page.
