The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

Achieving this ambitious agenda not only urges us to rethink our approach to development but also to significantly increase investment in development. It is estimated that the current funding gap is 4.2 trillion dollars annually.

Tax and fiscal policies play a critical role. Taxation is considered both a tool for revenue collection and a policy instrument to encourage sustainable growth strategies and influence behaviour towards desired outcomes related to climate, nature, well-being and other aspects of sustainable development. Importantly, a progressive and fair taxation system fosters good governance and establishes a deeper social contract. 

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Oxfam IBIS and Copenhagen Business School invite you to a debate on how to strengthen domestic revenue mobilization through the capacity of national tax administrations, in a way that simultaneously increases tax compliance, reduces illicit financial flows and builds public trust in government. Our distinguished speakers will provide insights and different perspectives on current challenges and efforts to lead this work.
