The escalating threat of cybercrime presents a critical challenge to the security of digital infrastructures across the globe. With the estimated cost of cybercrime skyrocketing from $860 billion in 2018 to $8.15 trillion in 2023, and projected to reach $13.82 trillion by 2028, the urgency for robust cybersecurity measures has never been greater. The Western Balkans, Georgia, and Moldova are particularly vulnerable, having faced numerous cyber-attacks that have impacted essential services.
To effectively combat these threats, regional cooperation is essential. The First Networking and Technical Workshop of Cybersecurity Agencies intends to improve collaboration among cybersecurity authorities, enhancing their ability to respond to and reduce cyber risks. This workshop will cover the most urgent needs like comprehensive frameworks for vulnerability research, coordinated response mechanisms, and the development of a skilled cybersecurity workforce.
Achieving meaningful cybersecurity resilience requires a multifaceted approach. It is vital to strengthen partnerships across sectors, promote best practices, and align cybersecurity strategies with evolving EU regulations. By doing so, we can ensure that the Western Balkans, Georgia, and Moldova are better equipped to face the challenges of the digital age.
Building on the momentum from previous workshops and assessments, this event will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, technical discussions, and the establishment of a Regional Cooperation Operational Network (RCON). Participants will engage in collaborative efforts to develop a roadmap for scaling up cybersecurity cooperation and support, directly contributing to digital transformation and EU reform agendas.
Follow us on November 4-5, 2024, in Tirana, Albania, for this pivotal workshop and be part of the conversation that shapes the future of cybersecurity in the region. Together, we can build a safer and more secure digital future for all.
