Enhancing Disaster Risk Management Capacities of Protected Areas in Dusheti Municipality

OVERVIEW

The Aragvi Protected Landscape and the Pshav-Khevsureti National Park, encompassing up to 50,000 hectares of invaluable forests and cultural heritage in the Dusheti Municipality, face recurrent threats of wildfires. With funding from the Czech Government, UNDP works with the Dusheti Municipality to bolster the resilience of mountain communities and forest ecosystems against climate-induced hazards.

WHAT WE DO

In close partnership with the Dusheti Municipality, the Agency of Protected Areas, Emergency Management Service and the National Forestry Agency, the initiative aims to enhance the planning and implementation of wildland, rural and forest fire prevention and preparedness measures in the Aragvi Protected Landscape and the Pshav-Khevsureti National Park:

  • Providing specialized wildfire management training for administrative personnel of the Aragvi Protected Landscape, Pshav-Khevsureti National Park, National Forestry Agency, and Emergency Management Service.
  • Supplying firefighting equipment and protective gear to on-the-ground personnel dedicated to firefighting efforts.
