Project

Enhancing Disaster Risk Management Capacities of Protected Areas in Dusheti Municipality

Overview

The Aragvi Protected Landscape and the Pshav-Khevsureti National Park, encompassing up to 50,000 hectares of invaluable forests and cultural heritage in the Dusheti Municipality, face recurrent threats of wildfires. With funding from the Czech Government, UNDP works with the Dusheti Municipality to bolster the resilience of mountain communities and forest ecosystems against climate-induced hazards.

What We Do

In close partnership with the Dusheti Municipality, the Agency of Protected Areas(link is external), Emergency Management Service and the National Forestry Agency(link is external), the initiative aims to enhance the planning and implementation of wildland, rural and forest fire prevention and preparedness measures in the Aragvi Protected Landscape and the Pshav-Khevsureti National Park.

Results

  • Rangers from the Aragvi Protected Landscape, Pshav-Khevsureti National Park and National Forestry Agency, and firefighters from Emergency Management Service have completed wildfire prevention and management training, gaining hands-on experience through field simulations.
  • The Aragvi Protected Landscape and Pshav-Khevsureti National Park have been equipped with essential firefighting tools, including first aid gear, portable water tanks, and a utility task vehicle provided to the Dusheti Emergency Management Service.
