Partnerships are at the core of our work. Our team brings together staff from UNDP regional and thematic bureaus who engage with the EU and other partners in policy discussions. We support our Country Offices in their relations with the EU and we carry out campaigns to showcase the impact of the EU - UNDP partnership. We advocate for international cooperation and multilateralism as we strongly believe that we can achieve much more when we work together.
Our office has a dual role - we are also the United Nations office in Brussels. Our Director is the UN Secretary-General's Representative of the United Nations towards the EU and the Belgian authorities.
In order to achieve its mandate, UNDP relies entirely on voluntary contributions from UN Member States, multilateral organizations, private sector and other sources, in the form of unrestricted regular resources (core), and contributions earmarked for a specific theme, programme or project.
The European Union is a vital partner and supporter of our work in nearly 140 countries worldwide. In 2004, UNDP and the European Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding, called the Strategic Partnership Agreement, which laid the foundation for a strategic partnership between the two organizations.
Belgium is one of UNDP’s top 15 partners contributing to our core funding, which enables us to respond quickly and flexibly when crises strike, pioneer and spread new ideas to address extreme poverty and to get the most out of every dollar spent.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
Here you will find publications that showcase the partnership between the European Union and UNDP as well as flagship reports such as the Human Development Report and other major reports on our thought leadership and expertise.
Our stories are visual and current snapshots of our work from around the world, showing how countries and communities are tackling development issues and moving the SDGs from paper to practice.
UNDP works in more than 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.
