A seminar on the role of project management in achieving the SDGs was held in Astana

On 8-9 November, with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Astana IT University hosted a seminar on project management. The event brought together prominent government, business, and international representatives.
The seminar that coincided with International Project Management Day featured discussions on implementing agile methodologies, sustainability, and project culture within the public sector. The event opened with welcoming remarks by Kuanyshbek Yessekeyev, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Sukhrob Khodjimatov, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Kazakhstan.
In his address, Sukhrob Khodjimatov underscored the critical role of effective project management in implementing the SDGs in Kazakhstan, stating:
“Project management is not just a tool; it is the foundation for sustainable progress. By integrating the SDGs at all levels—from national strategies to local initiatives—we ensure that meaningful change reaches people, improves their lives, and enhances the resilience of our society.”
Moreover, Zhakip Asanov, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Kanysh Tuleushin, First Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, delivered a session in the TEDx format.
The agenda included several panel sessions and master classes, along with a national presentation of the IPMA publication “Projectification of Society: the Case of Kazakhstan,” highlighting Kazakhstan’s project management experience. Speakers included representatives from the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and leading international experts in sustainable project management. The second day of the event was dedicated to a simulation game on project management, “SimulTrain.” This interactive exercise allowed participants to apply their knowledge in practical settings, enhancing their decision-making skills in real-world project scenarios.
