Supporting the Economic Empowerment of Afghan Women through Education and Training in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
In 2019, UNDP launched the EU-funded project that allows 50 students from Afghanistan to study at the universities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The project is expected to help create new business and employment opportunities for Afghan women and their communities back in Afghanistan.
Between now and 2025, 50 students will attend bachelor’s, master’s and TVET degrees in agriculture, applied statistics and mining at academic establishments across Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. In addition, UN Women will organize summer schools that will train the selected women in entrepreneurship and networking to contribute to their post-study employment opportunities.
The overall objective of the project is to strengthen human capacity development in Afghanistan by increasing women’s access to quality higher education through expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
