CO-DESIGNING SOLUTIONS THAT REDUCE EXPOSURE TO AIR POLLUTION – PART 1
July 5, 2023
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) have played a key role in driving change and keeping up the efforts on environmental protection. As a partner in the Healthier Kosovo 2 Project, UNV has been engaging youth around Kosovo to respond to the challenges caused by air pollution and to promote sustainable and resilient communities.
In November 2022, 10 UN Community Volunteers were selected to embark on their nine-month journey. This mission provided an opportunity for the selected students from University of Pristina to take part in co-design activities to explore prototyping solutions with the aim of reducing exposure to air pollution and building a greener environment in Kosovo. As a result, the co-design activity brought together ten committed students from the Social Work Department.
This intense process initially involved learning about air pollution, field research in the most polluted areas, qualitative interviews and deep discussions with the affected communities, data documenting and analysis, and, developing innovative smart solution recommendations that could help improve the quality of air in Pristina.
