UNDP organized a study tour to the Russian Export Centre (REC) in Moscow for representatives of Central Asian trade support institutions.
On 5 and 6 August 2021, representatives of Kyrgyz trade support institutions, including the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, JIA Business Association and RSK Bank, participated in a two-day intensive training programme organized by UNDP and conducted by the REC. The purpose of the study tour was to equip the participants with new knowledge and tools that would help them further promote their exports.
Throughout the course of the programme, participants learned about the REC and the wide range of financial and non-financial export support services it provides to Russian exporters.
Participants noted the value and importance of such state support, particularly educational (for example, the REC’s Export School, which provides potential and experienced exporters with extensive training programmes), consulting, financial and insurance services.
“State support of our exports in the Kyrgyz Republic – especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic – is a crucially important factor for the survival and development of the country’s economy. It can become that lever that will help change the course from regressing to progressing. Creation in the Kyrgyz Republic of an institute such as the Russian Export Center will provide support to local producers, increase trade turnover of the country and will facilitate the further development of the economy in future”, said Nazira Katipova, representative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Highlighting the importance of exports in the socio-economic development of the country, the advisor to the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, Baktybek Mambetaliev noted that “the basis of any economy is sufficient budget balance, i.e. prevalence of revenues over expenses. Only then we can successfully fulfill our social and infrastructural tasks in the country. But the achievement of such goals is only possible by improving the investment climate, production, and exports. The core of the economy must be the following mechanism: production – processing – sales, where export play the key role.”
This initiative is part of the Aid for Trade in Central Asia project, supported by the Government of Finland.
REC is a state-owned development institute established by the Government of the Russian Federation to support the development of non-commodity exports. REC offers a wide range of financial and non-financial support tools to assist Russian exporters in exploring foreign markets and building capacity to better participate in global trade.[1]
